Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!
“An angel went down to the Three Holy Children while they were in fiery furnace Let us now go down with them who are in the furnace of poverty, and by almsgiving let us make a “dewy air,” and fan the flame quite aside, that we may be partakers of their crowns also. Let us also behold the marvel, strange and beyond thought, a man singing praise in a furnace, a man giving thanks in fire, chained to extreme poverty, yet offering much praise to Christ. They, who bear poverty with thankfulness, really become equal to those children. And as those children, by despising the king, became more glorious than the king, you therefore, if you despise the things of the world, shall become more honorable than all the world.” – St. John Chrysostom
“The Three Holy Youth were in the midst of the furnace and suffered no evil, but those who cast them into it were completely consumed. What is more amazing than this? The fire freed those it possessed, and violently seized those whom it did not hold; this is to teach you that it is not your environment that brings safety or punishment, but your way of life.” – St. John Chrysostom
“When we are with God, whether we are sitting in flames like the three young men in Babylon, locked up with lions, or swallowed by a sea monster, we must nonetheless give praise, rejoicing and not mourning over the present, but be merry in the hope of what is to come. We must endure the assaults of the enemy in expectation of glory, looking forward to the immortal crown.” – St. Basil the Great
